What the What is This About?

I am a writer. Yet, so far in my life, none of my jobs have had anything to do with writing. I am still paying for an education in Creative Writing that, until the last few months, I had done nothing with. I've worked in offices, coffee shops and bridal stores, hoping to someday write a novel and strike it rich.

But, oddly enough, a novel doesn't get written unless you sit down to write it.
A career in writing doesn't happen unless you make it happen.

So, for some reason, this year something snapped. I decided that this is the year. By the end of 2013 I want to be writing, as a career, and making money. My New Year's resolution was that, by the end of 2013, I would be making enough money writing that I could, if I wanted, quit my job and write from home.

So, here I go. This is a blog about how I am doing just that. Because as much as it may seem like it,
writing is NOT a solitary profession.

Somewhere, someone is in the same boat as you and wondering what to do next. Somewhere, someone has already gone through what you have and can offer valuable advice. I am starting at the beginning, from scratch, and just hoping it will turn into something profitable. I am not an expert. I am a 28 -year-old, part-time receptionist, hoping to spend the rest of my life doing what I love.

If you have advice, please share! If you have questions, please ask! I will be posting anything from websites that have helped me, blog posts about experiences, inspiring quotes, advice about working from home...you name it, I will try to cover it.

  1. Hi Allison,
I know the feeling, at least in part.
I would like to be a writer, but lack the skills.
However, I feel the need to capture on 'paper' a host of incidents in my life and hopefully share them with others.
Athletes need spectators, actors need audiences and writers need readers, Right!
I have written bits and pieces all my life.
10 weeks ago I set myself an objective to write a 1,000 word short story and publish it on a Blog every 10 days for a period of one year.
Quite a commitment. but a great objective.
So far I have published 11 stories and have 8 more up my sleeve ready to publish.
Take a look at my efforts on http://itravelstories.blogspot.co.uk/
and tell me what you think. any advise will be very welcome.
Meanwhile I shall follow your writing journey, I find it very encouraging.
I must get back to the garret, I feel the keyboard calling for action from my frozen fingers.
